From the President
Still, after nearly 7 years of living in Brisbane, warm weather provides no signal to me that Christmas is coming. It does however tell me that it is Kenmore Rotary raffle season! I must urge all members to sign up to sell raffle tickets. The raffle is the largest fundraising activity we undertake and is a great opportunity to start conversations with community members about the great work we do. We require everyone’s support to ensure we have sellers on all shifts. So, bring a friend and enjoy a few hours with them and other Rotarians selling tickets. The sign-up links are available from "Upcoming Events" opposite in this Kog and from the main webpage (https://www.rotarykenmore.org/) and you don’t need to be a member to sign up!

October in the Rotary calendar is focused on Economic and Community Development. Although our Club has historically not had a sharp focus in this space, we have related principles embedded in the projects we do champion. This includes using local resources whenever possible both for our international as well as local projects. For example, our District grant several years ago to support retinoblastoma diagnosis in Nepal trained local health staff to use the diagnostic tool. Similarly, we use local business when undertaking projects here in Australia, for example when printing the raffle booklets and signs, we used a local printer. If you have interest and ideas in the economic and community development space, talk with Jenn about potentially taking your idea forward to a project!

On Tuesday October 20, our District Governor Ian Hope will be joining us for the evening. The Board will have a short meeting with Ian prior to the regular meeting kicking off. I encourage members to come prepared with questions about our District and Rotary in our Zone. Please plan to stay after the formal meeting to say G’day to Ian!

Yours in Rotary

CLUB MEETING  6th October 2026

at One Table Cafe

Chair: David Kearney

Reporter: Helen Donovan

Welcome: President Jason welcomed our guests and all Club members.

Jason advised that Sud has a business Opportunity which will prevent him from attending future Board meetings. Margaret has agreed to step up as chair of the Fund-Raising Committee.

Jason advised that volunteers are needed to assist with Christmas Raffle Ticket sales. Please register on Club Runner.

Members’ Spots:

June acknowledged the contributions of Andrea and Louis towards our Youth Exchange student, Marketa. Doug and Julie Smith are now the current hosts, and this will continue until the end of December. Helen Woodley will host in January. The Hottot family from Sherwood will host from February to April. Members are invited to 17th November Club meeting when we will celebrate Marketa’s birthday.

Margaret reminded members to register for shifts for selling Christmas Raffle tickets. A Captain is also needed for Week 4 of the sales. Some Interact students will be assisting with ticket sales on 22 November and 6 December. The Christmas raffle will be drawn at the Brookfield Bush Christmas on 11th December.

Mary attended an Opera in the Gardens meeting and from next year the event will be renamed to “Music in the Gardens”. A broader genre of music than in the past will be performed. The event in 2026 raised $1600 for the Club.

Mary mentioned that she and several other members attended the “Pink Door” event. This project is a separate entity from the Woman’s Crisis Support Services Ipswich. The “Pink Door” will be used for running support programs for women. $3500 has been donated from Grants towards upgrading their facilities.

Committees then met, reviewed and future procedures were planned.

Christmas Raffle - Our Major Fundraiser

Thanks to the 29 members who have now signed up for multiple shifts. All weekend captains are now in place. However we still have 27 shifts unfilled mainly on Sundays outside of Woolworths. Please help. The sign-up links are available from “Upcoming Events” in this Kog and from the main webpage (https://www.rotarykenmore.org/) and you don’t need to be a member to sign up!

This year the Friday shifts are from 9:45 to 1:00 and from 1:00 to 4:00 so that we might catch the after school mums and dads.

The Draw this year is to be at the Brookfield Bush Christmas on Friday December 11.
