As we dive into the hectic end of the year, Kenmore Rotarians are busy organising some of our key fundraisers for the year. Our annual Kenmore Raffle is fast approaching, and I am pleased that Urvi and Margaret have commenced discussions with Kenmore Village on the logistics for the raffle. The refurbishment of Kenmore Village has placed some limitations on what we can do with this year’s raffle but I’m sure we can count on all members to help make it a success. Brian will be organising the roster for the raffle so please make his job easier by agreeing to do as many shifts as you can. The raffle will commence on Friday 8 November and drawn on Sunday 15 December. The proceeds will support our community projects, so let’s make this year the best yet!
Additionally, we’re thrilled to partner with Brookfield Rotary, Brookfield State School and Upper Brookfield State School for an engaging Trivia Night to be held on Saturday 9 November. This fun-filled evening promises camaraderie and friendly competition. Start to gather your teams and brush up on your trivia knowledge; prizes await the sharpest minds among us!
At our last meeting, we were privileged to hear from Dr Karen Moni, who presented on "Literacy Education: Preparing Adults with Intellectual Disabilities for Their Future." Her insightful talk emphasized the vital importance of tailored literacy programs that empower adults with intellectual disabilities to achieve greater independence and confidence. It was also a pleasure to induct Jennifer and Ruthven Underhill into Kenmore Rotary. We all look forward to your contributions to the Club and the Kenmore community over the coming years.

Welcome: President Dave welcomed all guests and Club members. He advised that Rotary has designated the month of September as Literacy and Education month. This is most appropriate considering the guest speaker presenting tonight.
The Kenmore Rotary Garden Show committee have met and no response yet to report.
Urvi and Margaret have met with Kenmore Village regarding the Christmas Raffle.

Anne Townsend advised that a Ladies Lunch will be held at the end of January. More details to come.
David Kearney is helping with the organisation of the Brookfield Trivia Night to be held on the 9th November at Brookfield State School Hall. The committee needs raffle prizes and volunteers to assist with the set up and tidy up. Please see David if you can assist.

Why education is a lifelong learning focus:

Loneliness and limited social support
“Paid friends” and isolation
Karen and her team devised the “Latch-on” program which was piloted at UQ in 1998 and the study continues to this day. The program focuses on the interests of individual participants and advocates thriving not surviving. After 5 years of research, they developed resources and materials which are utilised when the Endeavour Foundation and the Downs Syndrome Association implement the program. This program is also partnered in Canada and Ireland.
President Dave thanked Dr Karen Moni for her presentation and presented her with a Kenmore Rotary Object.

Ross Thomas advises that 104 Year 6 students assembled 125 Junior Buddy study lights to be sent to West Africa to children’s living in energy poverty.
