Toast : Mary Kearney (International Service Director) proposed a toast to the Rotary Club of Mariehamns in Finland. She told us about the club and some of its projects.
President Dave :
- Future meetings will feature an International Toast to a Rotary Club somewhere in the world. Mary Kearney will co-ordinate this.
- Attended the Interact Club meeting at Kenmore High during the week. Only 6 students attended as the time clashed with maths exams, but a good meeting was had.
- Called for an increase of club bulletin readership. Encouraged all members to keep abreast of club activities, meetings and plans by reading each Kenmore Kog. Club Runner statistics reveal that a significant number of our members do not open their Kog emails.
- RYDA was conducted today at KSHS. Apparently poorly organised and plans are to hold it off-site next year.
Recent Board Meeting decisions :
- The Christmas Raffle this year will not have a trailer as the prize but a cash prize. This has been brought about by the contingencies of the shopping centre refurbishment and has presented an opportunity for the club to re-think this major fundraising project. There will still need to be a roster. Brian Kison has taken on the leadership of this, but there will be different "weekend captains".
- The Garden Show organising committee has met under leadership of Leanne Kison. Dave asked Leanne to give a brief report of progress. Jason and Dolly Pole were able to input ideas from other shows they had attended.The committee determined the different categories needed for the planning. Attempts being made to contact the Gold Coast club that runs a successful garden show.
Members' Spots:
Jim Dalton :
On his recent trip to Canada Jim was able to meet with the founders of ClubRunner in Toronto.
They were very welcoming and hospitable and they revealed that a new version of CR is coming which will make the program easier to navigate. See Jim's article below with more about this.
There will also be a better system for organising events. Jim brought back some promotional items (CR socks, water bottle and pen) which he gave as gifts to some lucky members.
Claylia Ward (Club Service):
- (On behalf of Ricky Haberfield) the Community Pantry was finalised today and 12 trolley loads of donated goods were distributed to charities. This is the largest collection ever since this project began. Huge thanks to all who donated to the Pantry.
- Member birthdays in August : Ross Thomas, Rob Mattern and Ian Nave.
- A date has been set for the Christmas Party -- Saturday 7th December. The event will be held at One Table Cafe. More details to come.
- Please use Club Runner when registering and paying for meetings. It simplifies the process.
- Documents to assist and inform rostered meeting officers will be updated and available on the web site.
Mary Kearney: Mary showed a framed Rotary Citation that was earned by the Rotary Club of Karana Bellbowrie in the last Rotary year. With RCKB now merged with Kenmore Mary will seek a similar award for our club this year.
Ken Ryan:
- Brian Becconsall, ex member and friend of the club, will have surgery this Friday. Please pass on best wishes to Brian.
- Our Container Recycling project returned $11,748 to the club this past year.
- Requested a volunteer to take Ken's role checking bins during August. Little to be done. The project is evolving all the time.
Jim Dalton: There has been a request from some members for more Club Runner training.
Will try to arrange a session at the Kenmore Library on a Saturday afternoon.
Ross Thomas (Youth Service):
Last Friday 2nd Aug at Chapel Hill State School solar lights were assembled by 124 students.
Ross thanked those members who attended and helped.
On 5th September the Solar Buddy moves to St Peter's School at 10.40 am when 125 lights will be assembled.
