Rotary Vision Statement for 2025-26

“Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves”

From the President
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for shifts for the Raffle – it’s now less than four weeks until we start.  Thank you also to Mary for her presentation on the Membership Action Plan last meeting.  It is important for all members to understand the Plan, what’s involved and its value so an informed vote can be taken as to whether or not Kenmore will participate further.  If you have the time please book into one of the upcoming Zoom briefings about the Plan – details follow.

Our meeting on 4 November cannot be held at One Table so I am looking for another venue on another date.  With a number of us on our Rotary trip to PNG it is preferable to also find another date.  Watch WhatsApp for messages.

Yours in Rotary
Margaret

Last Meeting

Held at One Table

7th October 2025

Chair: Leanne Kison

Reporter: Helen Donovan

Welcome: Leanne welcomed all Club members.

Foundation:

24th October is World Polio Day. Polio is a virus and can affect the central nervous system and may cause paralysis. There are 2 types of vaccines – inactivated and the oral polio vaccine. Rotary’s first polio project was in the Philippines in 1979. At that time, there were over 1000 cases per day in 125 countries. Polio Plus began in 1985. Now polio is 99.9% eradicated. The last remaining countries are Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation currently match Rotary donations 2 for 1.

Youth Programs

RYDA: A letter of appreciation was sent from the Head of Year 11 thanking the Club for the generous donation and ongoing support for the students from KSHS to attend RYDA.

Solar Buddies: Pullenvale State School are very keen to be part of this program in 2026. Jason has also been in contact with Brookfield State School.

RYTS Rotary Youth Transition Seminar: 2 students from KSHS will be attending the week-long seminar at Lake Perseverance in December.

Rotary Youth Exchange: Kenmore Rotary Club is supporting Bridie Smith’s application. She will leave in January 2026. More Host families will be needed for Inbound students.

NYSF National Youth Science Forum: We are supporting Gwen Whithead’s attendance in Canberra in 2026.

Rotary Youth Leadership Program: In consultation with KSHS, the program will be changing in 2026. There will be a Program for Year 8’s and another program for Year 11’s. The Year 11 program will be targeted to preparing for interviews, speeches and goal setting.

Interact: Dave

Mentioned that the Interact Doughnut Day will be held at KSHS this Friday, 10th October. 90 boxes of doughnuts are being sold. The teacher who currently assists with Interact is retiring this year and 2 new teachers will assist. They are not Rotarians and will be invited to attend a meeting.

Speaker: Mary

The Rotary Membership Action Plan was devised by Steven and Carol O’Connor from D9790.

MAP: M - Membership A – Action P – Plan

MAP aims to:

  • Increase our Impact

  • Expand our reach

  • Enhance participation

  • Increase our ability to adapt

Change: There have been many changes to Rotary since its beginning.

Meetings: They need to be effective and productive. There needs to be time for meetings and other – service projects; social events; fundraising.

New members: age range, gender, culture/ethnicity? Commitment to service?

Cost: Is it a barrier to membership? Payment of dues by instalments?

Members: Build your Club around your members. Regular member engagement check-ins.

Public Image is a top priority for attracting new members

Membership Action Plan:

  • Survey: results are collated and discussed at Club level

  • Videos to watch at meeting and discussion

  • Social Media Audit – small committee to discuss

  • Evaluate costs of being a member

  • Video: “Missing Millennials” and discussion

  • Board video – Board agrees on goals for My Rotary

Paul Completes His Latest Camino

“I have completed the Camino Ingles. This is my 10th camino but the shorter version starting from A Coruña doesn't qualify for a compostela. Well I guess I have enough of them.”

Hope to see you safely back soon Paul, Ed

Following on from Mary's  talk at our last meeting, if you are interested in finding out more register here for the two free presentations at 7:00pm Friday 31 October and 14 November

Our Christmas Fundraising Raffle

Outstanding Members' Commitment

As of today over two thirds of active members and several partners have signed up for shifts for the Christmas Raffle. Several members have signed up for four or five shifts. Weekend Captains are all nominated. We have never been this organised at this time.

As you can see from the chart we still have some shifts to fill, predominately selling raffle tickets at Kenmore Village on Fridays and Saturdays and outside Woolworths on Sundays from November 7 to December 7. So please for those of you who are available during that time, login to ClubRunner and sign up for a couple shifts.

The Raffle is our major fundraiser for the year and everyone who is able needs to be involved.
